Just hoping that the UK doesn't go through a knee-jerk racist or anti-Islamic phase, or turn generally facist.

IMO Europeans are more intellectually advanced when compared to the Yanks so I doubt your worries would come true.

I doubt it though. There are plenty of ignorant ppl in UK as well. Have been diligently watching the news for these few days and there are already plenty of racist attacks in London and rest of the UK. Not to mention the stupid slogan by BNP.
